The beginning

From a young age, Rebecca was eager to be involved with horses.   She was an active member of the Montgomery County 4-H club, worked at many local facilities to improve her knowledge, and took every opportunity she could to ride any available horse.  This drive led her to become the accomplished rider and trainer she is today.

Rebecca started her professional career after meeting Jane Cory in 1998 while attending Delaware Valley College.  At the time, Jane Cory was the owner of Pleasant Hollow Farms, a large boarding and competition facility in upper Bucks County which hosted several recognized horse trials throughout the year. Jane invited Rebecca to join her team as a working student. Rebecca accepted and later became a full-time employee following her graduation from Delaware Valley College in 2001.

While at Pleasant Hollow, Rebecca was responsible for managing many of the day-to-day farm operations, teaching lessons and training young horses. Under the tutelage of Jane,  she trained several young thoroughbreds, and competed at all levels of the sport from Beginner Novice through advanced level.

The horse that took Becca to the top….

Rebecca & Dollar Spot

Dollar Spot would become Becca’s advance-level event horse, but his story could easily have taken a turn for the worse. Dollar came to Pleasant Hollow as a rescue horse from Lost and Found Rescue.  A man had actually bought him off a truck bound for the slaughter house, simply because he felt sorry for him.  He arrived at Pleasant Hollow in 2000 in very poor condition.  He was extremely underweight and too weak to be ridden.  His entire body was covered in fungus and he smelled quite bad.  After a several months of rest and proper care, his under-saddle training began.  Having been a racehorse, he knew nothing of dressage or jumping, but he did know how to gallop! Jane Cory decided she would adopt Dollar and provide him a permanent home.  He had a great mind and she thought that he would be a suitable project horse and eventually, with more training, a lesson horse.

Having just sold a horse she was riding, Rebecca got the opportunity to take Dollar on as her training project.  As his training progressed it became more and more evident that this 16 hand, plain bay Thoroughbred gelding had a special combination of brains, confidence, bravery and athleticism – and  together, Rebecca and Dollar had a wonderful rapport.

In four years, from 2000-2004, the pair made their way from beginner novice to the advanced level.  In 2002 Dollar and Rebecca placed 10th at the Virginia CCI*, and 39th out of 150 at the Radnor CCI**.  In 2003 they competed successfully at the advanced level, culminating Dollar Spot’s career with the Fair Hill CCI*** in the fall of 2004.

Flying Horse Farm

Flying Horse Farm: Boarding, Training, Instruction in Sanatoga, PA

In 2005, Rebecca decided to put riding on the back-burner in order to pursue other interests. Partnering with her father and brother, Rebecca and her family opened a restaurant and bar, Ron’s Crooked Hill Tavern in Sanatoga, PA, which has quickly become a neighborhood favorite.

During these years, horses and eventing were never far from Rebecca’s mind. Rebecca kept an eye on the real estate market, searching for the right horse property so that she could start her own farm. Before long, Rebecca acquired the 10-acre property at 246 Rupert Road and began the process of renovating the farm. She opened Flying Horse Farm as a boarding and training facility in 2008.

In addition to renovating the original 6-stall barn, Rebecca built a new 8-stall wing, complete with a large tack room for boarders. The barn itself is airy and well ventilated. Horses have dual views from their stalls – doors open into the barn while dutch windows provide outside views – reducing overall boredom.  Horses at Flying Horse Farm are happy, healthy, and content.

Rebecca strives to maintain a casual and friendly atmosphere at Flying Horse Farm. Rebecca is excited to share her love of horses and eventing with her boarders and students and is looking forward to helping them achieve their goals, while at the same time bringing along her own young prospects.
